Do you have an inner geek? Is it tucked away, hidden beneath a charming exterior? Do you have a secret passion for LOTR? Is there a Mr. Wizard poster tucked away in your closet?

Or are you more brazen with your geekiness? Have you proudly set the NES Mario theme as your ring tone? Do you read Astronomy magazine for fun?
Ryan, a friend of tattoosales, carved a pi sign in a pumpkin for Halloween last year-making pumpkin pi. That’s pretty geeky, Ryan.

But even if you’re as geeky as Ryan, you’re likely light years away from these proud nerds. They’ve decided to display their geekiness on their bodies for the world to see-permanently.

What's inside Justin?

Mega Man!
See more here.
If you’re not ready to display your inner geek in a permanent fashion, have your geekiest design made as a custom temporary tattoo instead. That’s almost more geeky!

We wrote a post at the beginning of the month about an episode of the BBC series Luther in which a kidnapper concealed his identity by wearing a temporary tattoo on his face. Recent events in Shelton, CT prove this concept isn’t far fetched.
Katherine Vadnais pled guilty to being an accessory to first-degree robbery. She allegedly helped her boyfriend, Shawn Gullberg, put a temporary tattoo on his neck to confuse authorities should surveillance cameras capture his robbery. The chosen design: a starburst temporary tattoo.

Suspect Shawn Gullberg, left, allegedly told police he decided to rob a bank after seeing a commercial for “Public Enemies,” starring Johnny Depp, right.
“I figured if I put a fake tattoo on my neck that would be a good disguise,” Gullberg is quoted as telling police.
Vadnais allegedly applied the temporary tattoo to his neck. The rest of the tattoo kit was found in their residence, according to a search and seizure warrant.

The Seattle Times recently featured an article which reported that nearly 1300 employees of a health club chain, Anytime Fitness, have gone under the needle to receive permanent tattoos of the company’s logo.

Anytime Fitness Logo
“While it’s common for businesses to hand out temporary tattoos of their logos, this is taking product branding to a very personal — and some might say extreme — level.”
We have been printing temporary tattoos of company logos for over 20 years and while we have heard of stories like this in the past, never have we seen so many employees from a single company opting to be branded permanently. 1300 and counting is quite impressive, Anytime Fitness! What a unique and genuine display of employee satisfaction and loyalty.

In the fifth episode of the BBC series Luther, a wealthy art dealer and his family are taken hostage by a band of kidnappers led by man who has a tattoo covering his face.

Luther
But looks are deceiving; as it turns out, the leader’s tattoo is temporary! Perhaps there is a market amongst the criminal underground for temporary tattoos…
Quite an amusing concept!

Props to the Academy of Country Music for coming up with this creative idea and to Ronnie Dunn for his great sense of humor!

High school students in La Crosse, WI held an event last Friday to educate their fellow classmates about Wisconsin’s new smoke-free workplace law and to increase awareness about the dangers of smoking.
At the event, students had t-shirts, root beer floats and temporary tattoos to give away. At educational events like these, giveaways are a must! The root beer floats give students a strong incentive to stop at the event and the t-shirts and temporary tattoos are something they can take away to reinforce the message.

The Institute of Contemporary Art is hosting a gala this Friday, May 7th, and has requested that its 600 attendees accessorize their formal attire with temporary tattoos.

ICA Boston
It makes sense that the art world would be the first to fully embrace temporary tattoos as mainstream fashion accessories. Still, galas are traditional, formal events and basing a gala dress code around temporary tattoos is quite novel.
Will temporary tattoos formally included as part of the dress code become the norm? It’s hard to say. But what we do know is that temporary tattoos as fashion accessories are here to stay. After all, if a major museum in Boston is requesting temporary tattoos, it will ripple through that local culture – and probably through other major cities.
